These saris are made of linen fabric. This is made of flax fiber or yarn. Linen is particularly known and recommended to be used in temperate climate due to the super lightweight. The fabric provides superior comfort as it has sweat absorbing properties. Linen allows easy air flow and is a better reflector of heat. Therefore, wearer of the fabric feels comfortable. The fabrics has heavier versions and are available in deep colors, viz. Navy, Brown and Black that has made these offer comfort during winters too.
These saris are mainly warp based. Linen yarn is used for the warp, and same type of fabric is used for weft too. These saris are called linen by linen in saree stores in Kolkata. There are other varieties too where linen is used as prime yarn and its range is about 60% of the total composition. Rest of the portion is made with Khadi, Cotton or Silk. Though linen is breathable, it has tendency to become stiff. Combination with Cotton, Khadi or Silk helps in making the saris softer.
Expert weavers suggest that the weaving of linen saris should be made a little loose. Tight weave makes the saris heavier and less comfortable. Besides, it might get crumpled easily.
